    Founding Partners

The Upstream Heroes/Great Rivers WIIN program draws on the experience of partners with deep experience throughout the Mississippi River Basin and around the world. Many leading suppliers of inputs, insight and information contribute their expertise to projects in the Basin, augmenting the work of watershed groups across the landscape.

WIIN is organized by the Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) and The Nature Conservancy Great Rivers Partnership with funding from:

    • The Mosaic Company
    • The McKnight Foundation
    • Monsanto

    CTIC Logo

CTIC is a national public-private partnership that provides clearinghouse for information on conservation technology. It is our mission to champion, promote and provide information on technologies and sustainable agricultural systems that conserve and enhance soil, water, air and wildlife resources and are productive and profitable.

CTIC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization comprised of members of the agriculture industry, ag publications, agricultural associations, conservation organizations and producers, and is supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and other public entities.

    TNC Logo

The Great Rivers Partnership is a global effort to advance sustainable management of the world’s great rivers for people and nature. The GRP focuses on entire river systems and brings together the best available science and diverse stakeholders to develop and implement innovative solutions to issues threatening freshwater sustainability.

We view our history and leadership role in the Mississippi River Basin as an important regional asset, and a foundation for promoting the global exchange of knowledge and expertise.

     mosaic=

The Mosaic Company’s mission is to help the world grow the food it needs. As the world’s largest supplier of phosphate and potash, we consider this mission to be a compelling one that carries vast responsibilities.

From water conservation and energy efficiency to stringent safety programs and community investment, sustainability is embedded in virtually everything we do. We believe that lasting success comes from making smart choices about our stewardship of the environment, how we engage our people, and how we manage our resources.

McKnight Logo Through grantmaking, collaboration, and strategic policy reform, the McKnight Foundation seeks to use its resources to attend, unite, and empower the communities they serve.

One component of the McKnight Foundation’s environmental program is to restore the water quality and resilience of the Mississippi River.  Grants focus on floodplain restoration and protection, reduction in agricultural runoff, and cross-boundary and inter-agency coordination throughout the 10-state Mississippi River corridor.

McKnight Foundation support enabled TNC to establish WIIN.

    Monsanto Logo

Monsanto helps the world’s farmers by providing them better seeds, which can help them meet the needs of today while preserving the planet for tomorrow. Monsanto’s support of The Nature Conservancy reflects its long-term commitment to improve the sustainability of agricultural production systems.

Monsanto’s contributions also helped to establish WIIN. Plus, The Nature Conservancy’s Proof of Concept or Model watersheds – also funded by Monsanto – have taught many lessons that will be passed on through the WIIN Network.
